The Property Crimes unit consists of eighteen highly trained detectives. The duties of these detectives include the investigation of residential burglaries, business burglaries, vehicle burglaries, auto theft, theft, white collar crimes and criminal damage among other property related crimes. Last year these eighteen investigators handled thousands of investigations. These investigators conduct follow up investigations on reports that were generated by the criminal patrol division.

These detectives handle their investigations in an assigned district. Their duties are to search for trends in property crimes, identify possible suspects, and attempt to reach a successful conclusion in all cases. These investigators also work with the other smaller agencies within the parish, attempting to link crimes and trends. These investigators also work closely with the crime lab, narcotics and juvenile divisions as well as other agencies in the surrounding area, including military and federal investigators.

The Sheriff is proud of the effort put forth by these investigators in every investigation they conduct. Many times these investigators are working long hours in dangerous areas to solve crimes. Teamwork has resulted in the sheriff’s office reaching the highest solve rate ever recorded in the parish.

The duties of these investigators also include white-collar crime. These crimes are known as identity theft, computer crime, fraud, contractor fraud, counterfeit and forgery cases. These type cases are becoming more prevalent and are being addresses accordingly.
