The Person Crimes unit consists of nine highly trained detectives. The duties of these detectives include the investigation of rapes, homicides, missing persons, batteries and assaults among other person related crimes. Last year theses nine investigators handled approximately 700 investigations. These investigators assist the criminal patrol division with the more complex investigations that the criminal patrol division does not have time to fully investigate on their own.

Together they handle all of the person related crimes in the parish, excluding domestic violence and juvenile complaints. These investigators also assist the smaller agencies within the parish with their more complicated investigations. These investigators also work closely with the crime lab, narcotics and juvenile divisions as well as other agencies in the surrounding area, including military and federal investigators.

The Sheriff is proud of the effort put forth by these investigators in every investigation they conduct. Many times these investigators are working extra hours in dangerous areas to solve crimes.

Last year several of the investigators put in hundreds of hours investigating the homicide of Samantha Jaume, which resulted in a successful conclusion. That homicide case was the only unsolved murder that occurred under the command of Sheriff Strain. These investigators are currently investigating other old missing persons and homicide cases from previous administrations, while they continue to handle their current assignments.
