The St. Tammany Parish Narcotics
Unit is one of the finest in the area. In conjunction with
the Slidell Police Department, the St. Tammany Narcotics Task
Force works to gather information about drug trafficking in
the area. St. Tammany Parish is one of the few places in the
country that has three separate interstate systems that intersect,
which makes it conducive to the transport of various types
of narcotics through the region. The efforts and success of
the Task Force is enhanced through the assistance of many
local, state, and federal enforcement agencies, who work hand
in hand to deter narcotic activity. The Task Force utilizes
many different preventative measures to prevent crime by talking
to children of all ages, as well as adults, regarding the
dangers and consequences of drug usage. This task is accomplished
through assorted speaking engagements to a variety of groups
and organizations in the hopes of further educating the general
public on common indications that frequently denote drug activity.
The Narcotics Division has in place a completely
anonymous method of reporting information about suspected
narcotic activity that may be utilized by citizens who wish
their identity not be revealed. Citizens are encouraged to
call 1-888-GO-2-JAIL (1-888-462-5245) with any information
that they wish to relay in regards to narcotics activity in
the parish. Information relayed through this tip line is recorded.
This information is then accessed by narcotics agents on a
daily basis and acted on accordingly. This technique has proven
itself to be extremely effective and allows the citizen reporting
the information to remain anonymous. Individuals wishing to
speak personally with a narcotics agent can contact the division
directly by calling 893-5388.
