Deputies Find Body Concealed inside Slidell Area Home

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a residence in the 100 block of S. Military Rd. last night made a gruesome discovery:  the man who lived there was deceased and had been concealed inside an ice chest in his home for months, perhaps years.

The discovery occurred after the man’s daughter walked into the Slidell Police headquarters and reported her father’s location and condition.  Slidell Police, discovering the address was not in their jurisdiction, forwarded the call to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the woman, her father died some time ago.  Instead of reporting the death at the time, the woman left her father on a bed in the residence.  As the body began to decompose, she amputated the hands and placed them in a box in her freezer.  She then transferred the rest of the body to a 160 quart ice chest, which she kept inside the house.  The man was 6’-2” tall.

When deputies opened the ice chest in the residence, they found the man inside.  He had been there long enough that his body had begun to putrefy and assume a liquid state.  St. Tammany Parish Coroner Peter Galvan has taken possession of the remains.  Sheriff’s office and Coroner’s office investigators will attempt to determine as much as possible about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and the cause of death, if the condition of the remains permits.

The man’s daughter, along with a friend who knew about the case, spoke to Sheriff’s investigators throughout the evening.  Detectives are looking into whether the daughter might have concealed her father’s death for financial gain, continuing to spend his Social Security income.

Any state criminal activity committed by the daughter or others is still being investigated, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
